QCQ 11

Quote: “Doors, doors, doors everywhere, and all locked and bolted. In no place save from the windows in the castle walls is there an available exit. The castle is a veritable prison, and I am a prisoner!”

Comment: This strikes me as the point at which the book really starts to develop the conflict. The urgency at which it was stated that there were locked doors everywhere really hits home on that idea for me. I wonder if later in the book one of the doors will be unlocked, either intentionally or accidentally by Dracula. At the same time, I also am wondering if the doors are an illusion done by Dracula to make Jonathan more uneasy and scared. Although at the time I’m writing this I am not sure if Dracula has the power of illusion, I have heard from other vampire lore that vampires can have the power of illusion.

Question: Are the doors as significant as I think they might be or are they just a point to tell that Johnathan is trapped?
