Quote: “when I was seized again with those indescribable sensations that heralded the change; and I had but the time to gain the shelter of my cabinet, before I was once again raging and freezing with the passions of Hyde. It took on this occasion a double dose to recall me to myself;”

Comment: This strikes me as a situation quite similar to addiction, especially since its quiet literally a drug that keeps Hyde at bay. It did start a bit different however, the addiction Jekyll experience flips halfway through, first embracing Hyde and then turning towards fear as the change comes without his drug. Then it changes to an addiction to the drug in keeping Hyde away. In a way both are an addiction to the drug in a way as it’s the drug that brings Hyde out in the beginning. With addictions people often act in ways that can be seen as erratic or out of their normal. Addictions also cause people to do anything to get said drug. Like perhaps asking a friend to grab their drug, which Hyde arranges when he cant reach the drug without being spotted.

Question: If Hyde can be seen as the effects of an addiction, cant then peoples reaction to Hyde be societies views on addictions?
